Interested?
The Summer Student Labourer (Gibson in the Classroom) will learn various facets of our Hardisty terminal/facility as they assist with various entry level operational duties.
 
What You'll Be Doing

  • Ensures personal safety and follows site specific operating procedures (SSOPs) for facilities.
  • Maintains current safety training and certification (provided by Gibson Energy).
  • Learns and becomes familiar with and follows all of Gibson’s Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) manuals and policies.
  • Ensures adherence to quality standards.
  • Demonstrates competency and follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Completes general upkeep, routine and regularly scheduled maintenance of facilities.
  • Reports problems to Supervisor promptly.
  • Performs maintenance and upkeep of vehicles.
  • Performs routine building maintenance.
  • Performs day to day tasks in the lab. 
  • Demonstrates a personal commitment and proactive approach to Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) through participation in all applicable EH&S programs and ensures safe operation of the branch, team or unit and compliance with all Company EH&S policies and procedures.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

 
What You’ll Bring 

  • Preference for completion of a High School Diploma from a school included in the Gibson in the Classroom initiative. 
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License is required.
  • Ability to complete safety training courses, including Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) and H2S Alive (training provided by and financially support by Gibson Energy)
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
  • Exhibits to be a motivated team player, capable of managing several concurrent and varied projects.
  • Safety conscious; works in a safe manner at all times.
  • Carries out responsibilities with minimal supervision.

 
Working Conditions

  • This job is subject to background checks as outlined in Gibson Energy’s Background Checks policy.  Background checks include Drug & Alcohol testing, Functional Fitness Testing, Employment Verification, Drivers License Verification, Reference Checks and Criminal History Check. 
  • As this position includes operating a company vehicle, the success candidate will be required to provide a minimum 3-year Driver's Abstract.
  • Must be able to walk on uneven surfaces as well as climb ladders and stairs 
  • Standing for frequent periods 
  • Occasional bending and twisting is required as is prolonged neck positioning  
  • Occasional kneeling  
  • Frequent upper extremity movements (elbows, forearm, wrist, handgrip) 
  • Lifting up to 50lbs 
  • Pushing, carrying, pulling up to 30lbs
