Interested?
Operate within a petroleum-testing lab including the operation, maintenance and calibration of the lab instruments, record keeping, the ordering of supplies and ensuring that any and all tests be performed according to applicable standards.
What You'll Be Doing
- Performs sediment and water analysis and density testing on petroleum samples.
- Performs other tests including vapor pressure, viscosity, sulfur, GC analysis, and other tests as required.
- Maintains and verifies calibration of lab instruments as required. Orders lab supplies as required.
- Keeps records relating to test results and calibrations.
- Collects samples as required.
- Maintains safe work procedures and a healthy lab environment according to Gibson Safety and Environmental policies.
- Maintains familiarization with applicable testing standards and manufacturers recommended procedures regarding operation, calibration and maintenance of instruments.
- Relates to our customers by addressing their concerns about test results.
- Keeps up to date with changes to testing standards.
- Recommends replacement and new equipment when necessary.
- Performs basic housekeeping duties.
- Demonstrates a personal commitment and proactive approach to Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) through participation in all applicable EH&S programs and ensures safe operation of the branch, team or unit and compliance with all Company EH&S policies and procedures.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications – Related Education, Experience & Skills
- Chemical Technology Diploma or equivalent with 0-2 years of lab testing experience, or a combination of experience and post-secondary education.
- Valid Class 5 Non-GDL Driver’s License.
- Basic computer skills and experience using MS Office (Excel, Word and Outlook).
Preferred Skills & Abilities:
- Demonstrate competency with oral and written communication.
- Ability to prioritize assignments and meet deadlines.
- Successful candidate will have a desire to learn.
- Represent and promote the Company in a responsible, positive and professional manner.
- Ability to foster strong relationships; customer service focused.
- Exhibit commitment to quality and safety.
Knowledge considered an asset will be:
- Understanding of Gas Chromatograph.
- Familiarity with a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Operational knowledge as it relates to crude oil processing (upstream and downstream) as well as terminal and pipeline facilities.
- Understanding of equipment, reliability and operational processes.
- Ability to apply relevant technical and regulatory codes and standards to operations.
Working Conditions
- The majority of the work is performed in a lab environment.
- This position requires physical mobility and able to perform duties in a confined space and/or in the vicinity of dangerous goods.
- This position requires employees to wear appropriate PPE as required by the company’s safety policies and as required for weather conditions.
- This position includes operating a company vehicle, the selected candidate will be required to provide a minimum 3-year Driver's Abstract.
