We are seeking a strong people leader with advanced technical skills and, ideally, experience with a union to join our team as a Laboratory Supervisor in Moose Jaw, SK. In this role, you'll manage lab operations, including quality systems, development, and reporting, while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. As a subject matter expert, you'll oversee product quality management in blending, optimization, and compliance. This role is accountable for the performance, development, and safety of the unionized lab staff, ensuring cost-effective results.
What You'll Be Doing
- Develop and mentor team members, providing guidance and direction for the laboratory team.
- Manage performance to achieve results.

- Communicate the Company’s vision and strategy in relatable terms.
- Create an engaging environment for team members to produce high-quality services.
- Establish, maintain, and monitor a strong safety culture within the lab team.
- Oversee quality control processes, ensuring compliance with internal and external requirements, and liaise directly with customers and suppliers on product quality concerns.
- Implement new programs, tests, methods, instrumentation, and procedures by investigating alternatives and developing proposals.
- Maintain a safe working environment in compliance with applicable standards and best lab practices.
- Lead the unionized laboratory team, providing guidance, development, and performance management, scheduling, and other supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Union CBA.
- Act as a quality subject matter expert, providing guidance on product quality-related issues and initiatives to both internal and external customers.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and participating in industry technical groups.
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Science (Chemistry) or a related field, or a Chemical Technology Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 5+ years of related work and supervisory experience.
- Strong people leadership skills with a focus on team development and engagement.
- Previous experience working with a unionized workforce is preferred.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Petroleum and/or Asphalt testing laboratory experience is ideal but not required.
- Knowledge of ASTM testing standards for both Asphalt and Petroleum products.
- Working knowledge in quality management systems and processes relating to ISO 17025 or ISO 9001.
- Understanding of chemistry behind applicable lab processes as it relates to product quality.
- Knowledge in LIMS utilization, control charting functions, development, and system interfaces.
- Analytical understanding of data output, repeatability, reproducibility, and uncertainty statements.
- Knowledge of Asphalt and Petroleum quality specifications and industry guidelines.
- Experience in Upstream, Midstream, and/or Refinery operations is highly desirable.
- Ability to work and contribute in a team environment while independently managing multiple and competing priorities.
- Proficiency with MS Outlook, Excel, Word, SharePoint, One-Drive, and Power BI.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbally and written.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving skills with flexibility to adapt to a changing environment.
- Ability to liaise with all levels of the organization in various geographic locations.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with internal and external groups.
