The Role
The Instrumentation Technician is responsible for completing work assignments as issued. As an important part of the Maintenance team, you will ensure work is completed as assigned in order to facilitate a safe reliable plant operation. This position will report to the Senior Supervisor Maintenance for all aspects concerning the duties assigned.
What You Will Do
- Be capable of installing, calibrating or maintaining all instrumentation in the refinery including but not limited to pressure gauges, thermometers, control valves, motorized valves, filters, transmitters, controllers, recorders, receivers, transducers, tank radar and other refinery instrumentation and installations.
- Responsible for keeping complete and detailed records of the equipment, including CMMS and to ensure that routine, and periodic checks are maintained on a regular basis.
- Be capable of installing, programming and trouble shooting PLC's, control hardware and software related to the Delta-V process control system.
- Cooperate with all supervisory staff to ensure that assignments are completed as required.
- May be required to clean areas on an as needed basis.
- Operate heavy equipment as required, safely and efficiently when time allows.
- Meet maintenance work scheduling, job related planning and efficient project completion.
- Will work in close cooperation with other crafts where necessary to ensure the satisfactory completion of any job, which may be assigned.
- Must be willing to accept job assignments outside his/her trade as required due to shortage of work in the Instrumentation trade or shortage of manpower in other classifications (i.e.: trades helper, general labor.)
- Keep your supervisor informed of any material losses or unusual occurrences.
- Work within the maintenance expense budget for the instrumentation department.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Maintain Equipment and Facilities: Responsible for the day-to-day up keep of tools and equipment used in completing your daily tasks:
- Must be capable of performing necessary repairs to equipment related to the position.
- Perform clean up duties in conjunction with other jobs in progress in all plant areas, and leave the job, equipment and work area in a neat, tidy manner.
- Keep the Instrumentation shop area organized and clean at all times.
- Safety and Environment: Responsible for working safely and ensuring the safety of others and report any incidents to supervisor and record as required:
- In the event of a fire or emergency, your responsibilities will be in accordance with Emergency Response Plan
- Must be familiar with the operation, location and requirements of safety equipment and have a good knowledge of occupational hazards related to your duties.
- Understand and complete requirements under the Gibson Energy Authority to Work procedures prior to and after completion of job tasks.
- Complete lockout and tagging on all equipment as per procedures.
- Will endeavor to prevent environmental releases and will report all spills and see that they are cleaned up in a timely fashion should they occur.
What You'll Bring to the Role
- Meet the requirements of a Journeyman Certification in the Instrument field
- Must possess a minimum Grade 12 diploma or it's equivalent.
- Must hold a valid Class 5 Driver's license.
- Be thoroughly familiar with the proper use of tools, and equipment used to perform work assignments.
- Must be capable of reading blueprints and associated documents as would be necessary to perform work properly.
- Strong teamwork skills with the ability to take initative and work in a productive with minimum supervison.
- Follow company procedures, and maintain good records of all work completed and update equipment files as required.
- Time management skills that permit you to perform all duties and responsibilities in an efficient and timely manner
- Able to communicate and follow Company Policies, Procedures and Guidelines.
- Able to represent the department and the Company in a professional manner.
Working Conditions
- This is a safety sensitive position.
- Ability to perform work which includes exerting up to 20 kg (44 lbs) of force regularly.
- Frequent bending, crouching, kneeling, and reaching (including above shoulder height).
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders and access elevated equipment as required.
- Frequent standing and walking on concrete, gravel, mud, snow, and uneven or slippery surfaces.
- Ability to perform repetitive gripping, torqueing, and tool manipulation, including use of impact wrenches and power tools.
