Interested? 

The Summer Student Operations role offers a valuable opportunity to become part of our dynamic Terminals and Pipeline team in Hardisty. Based at the Hardisty Terminal, this position will involve supporting the team with general terminal maintenance tasks and assisting with operations that require collaborative effort. It’s a great chance to gain hands-on experience while contributing to the smooth functioning of our operations.

  

What You’ll Be Doing 

  • Ensure personal safety and follow safe operating procedures for facilities. 
  • Complete general upkeep, routine and regularly scheduled maintenance of facilities including lawn maintenance and painting. 
  • Routine building maintenance.  
  • Maintain current safety training and certification. 
  • Be familiar with and follow all Gibson’s Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) manuals and policies.  
  • Ensure adherence to quality standards.  
  • Demonstrate competency and follow Operating Procedures.  
  • Report problems to Supervisor.  
  • Vehicle upkeep and routine maintenance.  
  • Demonstrates a personal commitment and proactive approach to Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) through participation in all applicable EH&S programs and ensures safe operation of the branch, team or unit and compliance with all Company EH&S policies and procedures.  
  • May perform other duties as assigned.  

 
What You Will Bring 

  • Completion of a High School Diploma.  
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Word.  
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License.  
  • Mechanical and equipment operation aptitude.   
  • Knowledge or experience in the petroleum industry would be an asset.  
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.  
  • Interpersonal communication skills. 
  • A motivated team player, capable of managing several concurrent and varied projects. 
  • Carry out responsibilities with minimum supervision. 
  • A quick learner who approaches all projects with a sense of urgency. 
  • Self-directed and motivated for positive results.  
  • Willing to work in and contribute to a team environment.  
  • Satisfactorily demonstrate and maintain knowledge and ability competence (i.e. basic and area specific certifications) associated with developmental progression and responsibility areas. 

  

Working Conditions 

  • Required skills include the ability to lift, carry and pull up to 50 lbs, effectively work at heights, climb stairs and ladders frequently and walk for 50-60% of the shift which may include walking on uneven surfaces. 
  • This position includes operating a company vehicle, the selected candidate will be required to provide a minimum 3-year Driver's Abstract.
