The Role

The Summer Student Labourer will work at our Hardisty terminal/facility in a safety senstive environment completing equipment checks and terminal maintenance.

 

What You Will Do

  • Ensures personal safety and follows site specific operating procedures (SSOPs) for facility.
  • Maintains current safety training and certification (provided by Gibson Energy).
  • Learns and becomes familiar with and follows all of Gibson’s Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) manuals and policies.
  • Ensures adherence to quality standards.
  • Demonstrates competency and follows maintenance procedures.
  • Completes general upkeep and regularly scheduled / routine maintenance of facilities including, cleaning, lawn and weed control, painting, etc.
  • Reports problems to Supervisor.
  • After completion of required on-the-job training, work will be completed across three (3) company facilities including: the Gibson Hardisty Terminal (GHT), Primary Control Centre (PCC), and Diluent Recovery Unit (DRU).
  • Demonstrates a personal commitment and proactive approach to Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) through participation in all applicable EH&S programs and ensures safe operation of the branch, team or unit and compliance with all Company EH&S policies and procedures.
  • May perform other duties as assigned. 

 

What You'll Bring to the Role

  • Enrolled in grade 11 or 12 at Sedgewick, Irma or Hughenden highschool classes. 
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License is required.
  • Ability to complete safety training courses including H2S Alive and basic First Aid (training provided and financially support by Gibson Energy).
  • Good mechanical aptitude.
  • A motivated team player, capable of managing several concurrent and varied projects.
  • A quick learner who approaches all work in a safe manner at all times.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Works well independently and with minimal supervision.

 

Working Conditions

  • Required skills include the ability to lift, carry and pull up to 50 lbs, effectively work at heights, climb stairs and ladders frequently and walk for 50-60% of the shift which may include walking on uneven surfaces.
  • This job is subject to background checks as outlined in Gibson Energy’s Background Checks policy. Background checks may include: pre-employment drug & alcohol testing, pre-employment functional fitness testing, employment history verification, reference checks, education and/or credentials verification and driver's license verification.
  • A drivers abstract may be requested. 

 

Pay Rate

  • The hourly pay rate will start at $20.00. Rates are subject to change.
