Mechanical Technician

The Role

The Mechanical Technician position is responsible to complete work assignments as issued.  As an important part of the maintenance team you will ensure work is completed as assigned in order to facilitate a safe reliable facility operation. 

What You'll Do

Maintenance Mechanical Technician: Responsible for the reliable operation of the facility through completion of work assignments as provided by the Mechanical Lead: 

• Will report to the Mechanical Lead, Maintenance Supervisor. 

• Possess the knowledge and ability to repair rotating equipment, including compressors, mixers, reciprocating drivers, positive displacement pumps, centrifugal pumps, and overhead cooling fans. Work includes equipment overhauls and alignments, mechanical seal replacement and repair, new equipment installation, and preventive/predictive and corrective maintenance. 

• Troubleshoot mechanical equipment issues and recommend corrective actions to restore reliable operation. 

• Perform preventive and predictive maintenance inspections to support equipment reliability and reduce unplanned downtime. 

• Monitor equipment vibration and update the program on a regular basis. 

• Cooperate with all supervisory staff to ensure assignments are completed as required. 

• Understand and complete requirements under the ATW authorization to work procedures before and after completion of job tasks. 

• Operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently as required when time allows. 

• Be a self-motivated team player able to work well under pressure. 

• Provide on-call support as required. 

Maintain Equipment and Facilities: Responsible for the day-to-day upkeep of tools and equipment used in completing your daily tasks: 

• Must be capable of performing necessary repairs to equipment related to the position. 

• Perform clean up duties in conjunction with other jobs in progress in all plant areas. 

• Keep the warehouse area clean, organized, and ready for use. 

Safety and Environment: Responsible for working safely, supporting the safety of others, reporting incidents to their supervisor, and documenting as required: 

• Must be familiar with the operation, location and requirements of safety equipment and have a good knowledge of occupational hazards related to your duties. 

• Complete lockout and tagging on all equipment as per procedures. 

• Take steps to prevent environmental releases, report all spills immediately, and ensure cleanup is completed promptly.

•  Meet maintenance work scheduling, job related planning and efficient project completion. 

• Will work in close cooperation with other crafts where necessary to ensure the satisfactory completion of any job, which may be assigned. 

• Must follow instructions as given by the Supervisor but is expected to show initiative to work in a productive manner with a minimum of supervision. 

•  Keep supervisor informed of any material losses or unusual occurrences. 

•  Maintain good records of any work completed and update equipment files as required. 

• Complete work order documentation, including labour, materials, findings, and follow-up requirements in the maintenance management system. 

• Support contractors and vendors as required during maintenance, repair, inspection, and commissioning activities. 

Who You Are

• Journeyperson Millwright certification, Mechanical Technician certification, or equivalent trade qualification. 

• Must hold a valid class 5 driver's license.

• Be thoroughly familiar with the proper use of tools, and equipment used to perform work assignments. 

• Proficient in the use of business software 

• Must be capable of reading blueprints and associated informational documents as would be necessary to perform his/her work properly.

Working Conditions

• Field-based role in an outdoor environment — PPE provided.
• 9/80 schedule: Work Monday to Thursday in 9-hour shifts, with alternating Fridays off or worked as 8-hour days — giving you a long weekend every second week while averaging 80 hours over two weeks.
• May involve working at heights and near hazardous materials.
