The Role
Reporting to the VP Capital Markets & Risk, the Manager Risk & Credit is a senior leadership role that balances strategic oversight and direct involvement in the execution of the team’s operational work. The Manager is responsible for overseeing market risk, credit, pricing, and commercial deal integrity that supports strategic decision-making across the organization. This role leads a high-performing team in executing day-to-day operations and shaping strategy, ensuring alignment with commercial goals and compliance frameworks.

The ideal candidate brings 15+ years of experience in risk and credit within energy, commodities, or financial services sectors, with a proven ability to drive innovation, contribute thought leadership, and shape industry practice.

What You Will Do
- Lead a high-performing, cross-functional Risk and Credit team supporting Gibson’s Infrastructure Marketing division.
- Create a culture of excellence and innovation through proactive coaching, mentorship, and engagement.
- Align team objectives with the corporate goals; communicate risk and credit strategy in actionable terms to key stakeholders.
- Contribute internal and external thought leadership on risk trends, credit markets, and operational controls.
- Develop and maintain all commodity risk models and tools, including VaR, stress testing, and scenario analysis; accountable for their accuracy and strategic relevance.
- Ensure models support commercial decision-making and remain aligned with evolving markets.
- Monitor exposure across commodity, FX, interest rate, and equity risks; maintain strong controls.
- Prepare quarterly risk and compliance reports for the Commodity Risk Management Committee and Audit Committee.
- Design and lead system and process automation initiatives that reduce risk and enhance analytic capabilities.
- Oversee the full credit lifecycle, including due diligence, financial analysis, limit setting, ongoing monitoring, and governance under Gibson’s Credit Policy.
- Maintain and enforce the company’s Credit Policy; ensure timely and relevant reporting to executive leadership.
- Act as final escalation point for credit exceptions, high-risk counterparties, and market exposure risk.
- Manage commercial deal entry to ensure timely, accurate, and policy-compliant transactions in systems like RightAngle.
- Oversee accounting reports related to derivatives and financial statements.
- Manage budgets, expenses, and pricing strategies relevant to the function.
- Evaluate and lead transformation initiatives, including process automation and integration with front-office operations.
- Establish and maintain governance frameworks and audit-ready control processes.
- Lead development of scalable systems and procedures to support business growth.
- Maintain deep cross-functional partnerships across Finance, Marketing, Legal, and Technology.
- Demonstrates a personal commitment and proactive approach to Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) through participation in all applicable EH&S programs and ensures safe operation of the branch, team or unit and compliance with all Company EH&S policies and procedures.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
What You Bring to the Role
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree Finance, Economics or related field.
- 15+ years of experience in risk management, credit, or middle office leadership roles within energy, commodities, or financial markets.
- Recognized expert in risk modeling, credit analytics, derivatives, and trade capture systems.
- Strong working knowledge of trading systems (e.g., Right Angle, Endur, Allegro), Excel, and advanced risk tools.
- Demonstrated success leading teams, influencing strategy, and solving multi-dimensional challenges with enterprise-level impact.
- Proven ability to lead teams and communicate complex risk data to executive and board audiences.
Preferred:
- Designations such as ERP (Energy Risk Professional), FRM (Financial Risk Manager), or CFA.
- Experience with regulatory reporting and audit frameworks related to commodity trading and financial exposures.
- Background in leading projects that intersect with technology, data governance, and commercial functions.
