Tax Analyst

The Tax Analyst is involved in all aspects of tax compliance, including preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual direct and indirect tax returns, tax provisions, accounting for all related tax liabilities and maintenance of related tax records. The Tax Analyst will work closely with members of the accounting and tax departments. This position requires a developing tax professional who is reliable, detail-oriented, and possesses excellent analytical skills.

· Prepare Canadian corporate income tax returns, partnership information returns and elections including related research, analysis and file preparation
· Prepare components of the quarterly income tax provision for consolidated financial reporting
· Prepare the monthly tax installment calculations
· Prepare and reconcile the tax liability accounts
· Prepare and file GST, PST, excise, carbon, motor fuel, and other sales and indirect tax returns
· Assist with the exemption certificate management process and maintenance of required business licenses
· Track, review, and pay property tax assessments and tax notices, ensuring all deadlines are met
· Work closely with other members of the accounting and tax departments to support projects as needed
· Build and maintain relationships with Gibson business units; be aware of changes in the business and related tax requirements
· Ensure all work is compliant with established tax reporting internal controls
· Participate in tax research as required and assist with additional projects and duties as assigned

· Experience in the preparation and completion of Canadian tax returns
· Experience with tax research software

QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Essential Work Experience):
· A post-secondary degree with a major in accounting or finance
· 3-5 years of experience working in tax or related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered, although preference will be given to candidates with a CPA designation and with prior experience working in Canadian corporate tax
· In-depth tax course in progress or desire to complete
· Experience in US tax and Canadian oil and gas tax would be an asset, but not essential
· Strong computer and technical skills including Microsoft Office Applications, TaxPrep, and accounting systems; Advanced Microsoft Excel skills preferred (VLOOKUPS, pivot tables, etc.)
