Facilities Engineer

Reporting to the Manager, Facilities Engineering, this function will provide facilities engineering solutions in support of safe and reliable operations and regulatory compliance at Gibson Energy assets. Promote “right-sized” engineering design and consistency.

· Provide cost and schedule estimates for small projects associated with hydrocarbon pipelines and facilities (terminals, pipelines, fractionation plant);
· Provide evaluation of project designs against technical standards and provides technical support on Statements of Requirements, Basis of Design and Engineering Work Packages;
· Interface with Technical Services, project engineers and EPC contractor engineers during FEED and start-up activities for related projects;
· Provide safe design and risk management input throughout the project management stages, in compliance with project controls and Authority to Work requirements;
· Provide overall project management for pipeline and facilities related maintenance capital projects;
· Detect improvement opportunities & initiate related projects;
· Provide technical support to troubleshoot issues and optimize operations;
· Assist with the HAZOP gap closure;
· Assist in annual operations and maintenance budget plan that aligns with Operating Management System (OMS) activity plans and asset risk registers;
· Work closely with operations field staff, operations construction staff, third party engineering firms, and others for appropriate project management;
· Participate in incident investigations, process and equipment failure analysis as required;
· Ensure regulatory compliance for all engineering activities;
· Provide engineering support to ensure that maximum benefit is obtained from process or operational changes without negatively impacting the safety or operability of production facilities;
· Ensure constructability reviews are conducted on all managed changes;
· Ensure that locally initiated facility installations and modifications are completed with sound project management principles and in a cost-effective manner;
· Develop and recommend projects, as well as a related scope, to improve performance in terms of reliability, safety, environmental performance, efficiency, and net revenue;
· Participation in the appropriate Process Safety related analyses (PHA/HAZOP, LOPA, etc.);
· Manage license to operate, facility upgrade and HSSE projects ensuring that engineering meets regulatory requirements, engineering specifications, and environmental and safety risk management; and
· Understand environmental impacts in their area and complete activities in a responsible manner to minimize environmental impacts.
· May perform other duties as assigned.

· Capable of effectively managing numerous concurrent and varied expectations and having the ability to prioritize these to meet stakeholder objectives.
· Ability to manage and troubleshoot a broad spectrum of technical issues.
· Project management experience with exposure to brownfield projects.
· Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
· Ability to make effective decisions as necessary and take a leadership role in solving problems.
· Ability to work collaboratively with functional and operating areas.
· Represent and promote the company in a responsible, positive and professional manner.

· Degree in Chemical, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, P.Eng. certification, and APEGA membership is essential.
· Minimum 5 years of mechanical, electrical, process or industrial engineering experience in support of the operation of major crude oil terminals and pipelines, NGL/refined product storage and handling facilities, and rail and truck load/offload racks and associated measurement facilities.
· Field office experience will be a strong asset.
· In-depth knowledge of relevant codes (ABSA, ASME, CSA, API, NACE, etc) and other technical regulations and standards.
· Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
