Operator Trainee

Position Details

Job Status: Fixed Term Full-time
Department: Terminal & Pipeline Operations

The Operator Trainee is responsible for carrying out and ensuring safe, reliable and effective facility transloading rail operations in Edmonton. The position requires a team player to work within the operations team to contribute to the smooth running of the rail loading operations to meet our customer’s needs.

***PLEASE NOTE: This is a fixed term position for up to one-year and will be extended as required***

· Ensure personal safety and follow safe operation procedures for facility.
· Railcar transloading
· Complete all required documentation in a timely fashion.
· Be familiar with Emergency Shut Down (ESD) and start-up procedures.
· Monitor capacity levels (e.g. tanks, bullets, railcars, etc.).
· Follow company HSE policies, procedures and guidelines.
· Maintain current safety training and certification.
· Completes safety inspections, checks.
· Develop and sustain positive working relationships with all internal and external customers.
· Ensure general upkeep of facilities.
· Vehicle upkeep and routine maintenance.
· Perform all duties and responsibilities in an efficient and timely manner.
· Perform duties consistent with Gibson’s Values and Principles.
· Communicate to immediate supervisor / manager of actions taken.
· Represent the department and the Company in a professional manner.
· May perform other duties as assigned

· Deal with customer concerns courteously and on timely basis.
· Ensure transloading operations are carried out safely and promptly.
· Ensure new employees receive proper training in all aspects of the Terminal.
· Inform Operations Supervisor, Team Lead, Operator 1 when changes or problems arise.
· Demonstrate ability to work conscientiously and efficiently with minimum supervision.
· Complete all duties with minimal error.
· Understand and complete, with minimal instructions, any assignment given outside normal duties.
· A comprehensive knowledge of all operational functions is required.
· Possess an ability to deal with people and their work-related problems.
· Skillful in establishing priorities.

· Previous railcar loading experience or terminal operating is an asset.
· Must complete Solis training level 4 within one year from start date.
· Completion of high school diploma.
· Completion of post-secondary education or related certificate an asset.
· Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s license.
· Possess and keep current all safety certification including: TDG, WHMIS, H2S, First Aid, Fall Protection, Confined Space.

· Most of the work is performed in an outdoor environment. Employees must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by the company’s safety policies and as required for weather conditions.
· This position requires physical mobility and able to perform duties at heights and/or near dangerous goods.
